I took "Bluebridge" ferry - a 3 and half hours trip through "Cook Strait" to Picton of South Ialand.
Except wind, I had a good trip by ferry, I took some pictures of Wellington city when the ferry was sailing Wellington harbour, then it went into "Cook Strait", turned right aimed to South Island, you can see the costal line of both South and North Island at the same time when the ferry was sailing at "Cook Strait", but nothing special, I just thought about " how the early immigrant thought when they saw the land after 3 or 4 months trip by ship???"
But something really amazing me was that after ferry sailed into the Sound of South Island (real name is Queen Charlotte Sound??), its so beautiful, what I can say to let you know is that just think about that you take more than 1 hour trip of sailing along the "Sun Moon Lake", of course it doesn't have many building along the waterside just mountain and trees. And I was thinking if here is so beautiful, how about "Milford Sound" and "Doubtful Sound" - the most beautiful sounds of NZ.
Picton
I stayed at Picton 2 nights and took a half day walk on "Bob's Bay Path" and "Snout Walkway".
Backpacker hostel - Villa
This backpacker hostel has high rate about 85 and it has free breakfast, free desert including a cup of ice cream at night(low season), keeps very well and free ferry's bus pass by it... its a good place to stay.
I met some Taiwaness at there, Trisca a new coming backpacker of NZ - she likes treking too and another 2 Taiwaness girls stayed at there, we talked and shared some experiences, and there were another 4 people speak Chinese too, I think they are from Taiwan too, but we didn't talk to each other.
Bos's Bay Path & Snout Walkway
The most attractive track close to Picton is "Queen Charlotte track", but I didn't have much time to there, so I just took a half day's track.
Along the "Bos's Bay Path & Snout Walkway" is the waterside where the ferry sail into "Picton". First, "Bos's Bay Path" is a easy and short walkway, you can see "Picton harbour", then "Snout walkway" it spent me more then 3 hours to complete this walkway. I went to the end of this walkway and got a better view of "Queen Charlotte Sound" though it was not a good day.
At 20th of Oct, I took Atomic bus left Picton, came to Christchurch - the biggest city of South Island.
